Longer lines on the weekends can result in up to a 2-hour wait, and the organizers urge visitors to plan accordingly. The trail remains open nightly until the last guest reaches the trailhead. On Fridays and Saturdays, the experience is open until midnight. The Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular kicks off at 7:15 p.m. Rain or shine, gates opens nightly at 6 p.m. Oh, and how could we forget the best part? Food is available! The illuminated trail is an art show al fresco thanks to the specially carved pumpkins. The park is well lit with 5,000 skillfully carved pumpkins that line a walking trail. You can visit the lit-up trail from now through Halloween at Iroquois Park, a 20-minute drive south of downtown Louisville. Of the 5,000 pumpkins, we’re highlighting 10 that stood out. We started with the 1950s + worked into the present day, walking past glowing renditions of some networks biggest shows like, “Breaking Bad,” and “The Sopranos.”

This year’s Jacko Spectaco revolves around a theme everyone has a connection to - television - taking guests through TV history via the art of carved pumpkins. Passion for Pumpkins also runs spectaculars in Rhode Island + Minnesota in addition to the event in Louisville. The event began in Oxford, Massachusetts in 1988 by a company called Passion for Pumpkins Inc. Previous themes include, “A Hitchhiker’s Guide to Magical Places,” from 2020 + “The Four Seasons,” in 2019. The Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular, which celebrates its 9th annual event this year, fills Iroquois Park with 5,000 glowing, hand-carved pumpkins around a changing theme. Organizers of the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular weren’t kidding when they named their event a “spectacular.” It’s the only word to describe the glittering display of pumpkins dotting the trail at Iroquois Park.
